Welcome! We’re Mendel and Chavi, and together with our children, we’re grateful to call Port Orange home. Sharing Jewish life with others has always been part of our lives, and it’s what brought us here: to build a community where every Jew feels welcome and at home.
A Little About Us
Rabbi Mendel grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, surrounded by the energy and spirit of Chabad life. His Jewish education took him from Brooklyn to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and later to Pretoria, South Africa, where he received his rabbinical ordination. Along the way, he volunteered at a Jewish high school in Miami and spent three years teaching in Brooklyn before moving to Port Orange. He loves helping people explore Torah and discover how its wisdom speaks to everyday life.
Chavi grew up in nearby Ormond Beach, where her parents’ work as Chabad emissaries gave her a firsthand appreciation for the care and dedication that go into building a Jewish community. She attended Rohr Bais Chaya Academy in Tamarac, Florida, and continued her studies in Tzfat, Israel. She brings that love of Jewish life and hospitality to everything she does at Chabad.
Our four children—Batsheva, Shua, JJ, and Rose—are very much part of the team, bringing their own energy, laughter, and personality to life at the Chabad House.

Inspired by the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s love for every Jew, we believe that everyone deserves a place in Jewish community life, regardless of background, knowledge, or level of observance.
For us, that begins with getting to know you. Whether you join us around the Shabbat table, stop in for a class, celebrate a holiday, or simply come by to say hello, we hope you’ll feel comfortable being yourself, asking questions, and taking part at your own pace.
